But I fell for it
It’s not that these things don’t have roots in truth, because most of them do. I say it’s not psychology because these absolute statements don’t really follow the “rules” of psychology. Look at number two. It’s of course very possible that a person who is sleeping too much is lonely. That’s just not the only possibility for it. That person may be suffering from hypersomnia, or perhaps a medication they’re on makes them fatigued and tired. Psychology is about how an individual’s experience of the world is influenced by various factors, which is why blanket statements like these can be highly inaccurate and even damaging if you take them for completely true. But since there is some measure of truth in these statements, when people see them it’s easy to take them at face value because you have probably seen elements of these in the people around you. So you shouldn’t feel silly or like you “fell for it.” :)
